Dears,Can someone explain what is the difference between the two below commands:- snmp-server community public 1 (where access-list 1 permit host 126.96.36.199)- snmp-server host 188.8.131.52 public
After some researches, I figured out that the first is for GET/SET operation while the second command is for trap even if we did not add the parameter trap in it.
Please advise if the above is correct.
Thx Hubert,I also found the below:
Note If the community-string is not defined using the snmp-server community command prior to using this command, the default form of the snmp-server community command will automatically be inserted into the configuration. The password (community-string) used for this automatic configuration of the snmp-server community will be the same as specified in the snmp-server host command. This is the default behavior for Cisco IOS Release 12.0(3) and later.
Thank you, I didn't know it
@Anthony Sequeira, @Brian McGahan, @Antonio Soares, Do the strings/passwords for both commands have to match?
If the NMS is configured to communicate with the agent using the snmp-server community string on the agent , does it matter that the snmp-server host string is a completely different string?... In this case, does it pose any risk changing the snmp-server host string to match the snmp-server community string?
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
