Debug ip packet details
Hi Dear Friends,
When i am debugging ICMP traffic originating from a router using debug ip packet detail command it is showing the packet is routed via FIB and the ICMP reply is showing routed via RIB. I disabled the CEF globally using no ip cef and after that both ICMP request and reply packet is showing routed via RIB
is this means that the packet is originating from a router was CEF switching ? if it is ,then how the cef switched packet can be debugged ?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
i didnt get ur question clearly!
anyways, if you debug from the router sourcing the traffic , you can see it as it sourced from Control-Plan,
if the traffic just path the router as a transient, you have to disable the CEF in order to see the packets in debug.
Thanks for the reply
my question is , When iam debugging traffic sourced from the router (Say ICMP request ) it is showing that the packet is routed via FIB .is it mean that the traffic was CEF switching ?
Yes, FIB means it CEF switched,
