Installing Dynamips on Windows 7 home premium system
I am trying to set up Dynamips on a personal laptop. Unfortunately, I can not install a loopback adapter. Please provide step by step instruction to help complete the installation. I have reviewed the video and links provided by INE but, have been unsuccessful in implementing the installation.

Check out this link http://www.windowsreference.com/windows-7/how-to-install-a-loopback-adapter-in-windows-7/ and tell us if you have problems. If you do at which step do you have problems?
Thank you. Is there a website for non-Cisco customers to freely download IOS software? I do not want to make a purchase because I am not 100% certain I can get the emulator to function properly.
No. There is not. Dynamips isn't even sanctioned by Cisco.
no - not at all, there is no website for non-cisco customers to fee download any IOS softwares but
if u need any IOS then tell me i can give you
Yes. I need them
Hello Jratliff34
Can you tell me which version of Windows are you using, Anyhow if the Microsoft Loopback Adapter is not working. Then I would recommend you to install the TAP Adapter. It will do the same job.

Happy Studying
I am using Windows 7 home premium edition with service pack 1.
Now that I have located an image for the 3640. The dynamips server does not start properly. The screen flashes very quickly then dissapears. I am not sure what needs to be edited to correct this. Your advice is needed.
I assume you are running it directly from your folder. Run it from a command prompt instead. Use start menu and then run -> cmd. Go to dir by using CD commands and then type the filename of the Dynamips server. Or you could download GNS3 which is much easier if you are not accustomed to how Dynamips works.
No. I am running what appears to be a very small batch file named dynamips server from the desktop. I would rather try and resolve the configuration issues I am having with dynamips. But, I will download GNS3.
Yes, that is what I said. Run it from the command line instead and you will see that it will start. If you have further issues we will assist you after you have Dynamips started.
Daniel, I thank you for your assistance. Below is the exact error message I recieve when I try and start dynamips from the command line.
Unable to create lock file "c7200_i0_lock".
VM default: unable to create instance!
C7200: unable to create instance!
Make sure that you run it as administrator or you will not have the correct privileges. Right click on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Then go to the correct dir and type dynamips-wxp.exe -H 7200. If you need multiple hypervisors you can open them on port 7201 and so on.
It is being run under an administrative profile. There is something else wrong or missing. I am going to remove all components and reinstall dynagen and dynamips. I am able to ping the loopback but, not the TERM SERV.
ok tell me what IOS u need
I am not cetain which IOS images I will need. I had to switch to GNS3 from dynamips which, is now functioning for me. Are you aware of an IOS that offers the most flexibility configuring INE workbooks with GNS3? I would like to have an IOS that allows for an easy transition. Therefore I am not certain if it is only 3600 series IOS images. Hopefully an entire composite is not needed to resolve this issue for me. I will continue to research for a more detailed answer for you; but I have left a small list of the IOS images that I possess. Do you have a list of images required by dynamips that would simplify this process? Thank you.
