5.4 - Test for R4 in solutions guide does not work

The Solutions Guide has the following test on R4:

ping vrf XYZ321 112.0.0.1 source ethernet 0/1

I could not get this to work on R4 using 12.4(23) IOS; however, I was able to get a device on the Vlan4 network with a 10.1.4.223 address, and I could ping all the AS54 addresses from there.  I've had other issues in the past with NAT when sourcing traffic from the router doing the actual NAT.

On R4:

Pro Inside global      Inside local       Outside local      Outside global
icmp 129.1.46.130:21   10.1.4.223:21      112.0.0.1:21       112.0.0.1:21

  • No problems for me:

    Rack1R4#ping vrf XYZ321 112.0.0.1 so e0/1

    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 112.0.0.1, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with a source address of 10.1.4.4
