Vol II Lab 2 - Inter-AS

Hi,

I have a question about Lab 2 in workbook 2 about the Inter-AS setup.  Label switching is not setup between the two AS's (100 & 200), however we are sharing VPNv4 information between AS's at R5 & R6 and R3 & R4.

Looking at the solution guide and on the Lab breakdown sessions I can't find any mention about enabling mpls on these inter-as links or configuring send-label under the BGP ipv4 config.  On the example verification in the solution it shows a traceroute from R2 within the VRF CCIE_SITE_1 to 192.10.1.254 - and it shows that Labels are being used across the link between R3 and R4 ?

My connectivity does not seem to work unless I enable one of these two options.

Has any one had the same problem ?

Thanks

Greig

  • Greig,

First of all, please post requests like this in the section "Internetwork Expert Products -> CCIE Service Provider Lab Workbook Volume II Version 1.0 IEWB-SP Volume 2 Version 1.0

Going back to your original query - as I don't remember this particular lab, I would like to clarify what Inter-AS option are you want/need to configure?

  • Hi Seba,

In future I will post in that section.

In the actual Lab it does not mention about configuring Inter-AS - however the links between the two AS's do not have mpls ip enabled on them or the BGP peerings (IPv4) are not using the send-label.  However we are also peering using MP-BGP Vpnv4 between the AS's so I was thinking that we would probably be using option 3 on the Inter-AS configuration ?

However as the solution guide or the lab breakdown don't seem to reference about enabling label exchange using the send-label on in IPv4 address family or even enabling mpls on the interfaces - I want to confirm that we do need to configure one of these options or if I am missing something in the question ?

    Thanks

    Greig

  • Greig,

This is Inter-AS option 2. You don't need to enable LDP b/w ASBRs. What you need it advertising the network between ASBRs into BGP on each ASBR or using next-hop-self command on ASBR.

  • Hi Rin,

Thanks for that - I will be repeating this Lab this coming weekend so hopefully will make more sense then.

    Cheers
