What is the benefit of implementing VLANs?

    I'm confused with the term 'logical network'. What's difference with the term 'network'

    people tend to say network when speaking about physical network (physically significant) but vlan when speaking about logically significant network.

    logical network is a physically-irrelevant separation of devices.
    i.e. u can have 1 building with 5 floors physically separated networks would 5 (each per floor). 1 vlan per floor, =5 vlans
    logically-speaking, u can go further and separate each floor into logical networks chunks or sub-vlans. i.e 2 per floor, =10 vlans
    so, you can say "my building has 5 networks but 10 logical networks

    you could have a vlan spreading over 2 buildings but I think cisco does not recommend this topology.

    in short; 'logical network' = logical vlans
    it means physical network is split into several logical vlans.

    usually, 1 vlan = 1 subnet
