Admin distance lab question

so the solution in the workbook is

access-list 1 permit host 150.1.4.4
!
router rip
distance 255 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 1
-------------------

doesn't this effectively say give everything an admin distance of 255 (in this case specifying the host route in acl 1?)

the "show ip protocols" for me in this case sort of confirms it
--------------------

Routing Protocol is "rip"
....
Routing Information Sources:
Gateway Distance Last Update
155.1.0.2 255 00:00:01
155.1.0.3 255 00:00:25
155.1.0.1 255 00:00:18
155.1.0.4 255 00:00:01
155.1.58.8 255 00:00:26
155.1.45.4 255 00:00:05
Distance: (default is 120)
Address Wild mask Distance List
0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 255 1

my solution was

access-list 1 permit 150.1.4.4

access-list 1 deny   any

 distance 255 155.1.0.4 0.0.0.0 1

 distance 255 155.1.45.4 0.0.0.0 1

which shows up more concise in the "show ip protocols"

 Routing Information Sources:

    Gateway         Distance      Last Update

    155.1.0.2            120      00:00:17

    155.1.0.3            120      00:00:11

    155.1.0.1            120      00:00:04

    155.1.0.4            255      00:00:27

    155.1.58.8           120      00:00:19

    155.1.45.4           255      00:00:18

  Distance: (default is 120)

    Address         Wild mask       Distance  List

    155.1.0.4               0.0.0.0      255  1

    155.1.45.4              0.0.0.0      255  1

is my solution in some way wrong, or is it just a different way to accomplish the same goal?

Comments

  • in your solution you are saying to set a distance of 255 for source 155.1.0.4 and source 155.1.45.4 to get to 150.1.4.4.

the question says to not allow devices within the network reach R4's loopback.  so you want to have distance 255 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 (which is any source) 1 (to the address specified in your ACL)
