Capture IOU traffic

Hi , I use windows8 and GNS3 v1.2.3

How can I capture IOU Routers and Switches while using these

I have two NICs, 192.168.56.0/24 and my wifi NIC 192.168.1.0/24. Can I route between these two NICs to be able to ping from my Physical HOST to any host on 192.168.56.0/24 while using VMs?

I know there are many other ways but I need that way because I run IOU integrate it with GNS3-Remote server and I want to capture traffic and send it to my Desktop. Also, I know I can use UNL but for now I need to have a route between these two NICs.

?

Many thanks in Advance

Regards

Hi Khalid, I think it is possible to capture traffic in GNS3 through Wireshark without configuring anything on the virtualization side.

Sorry I'm wrong, please refer to this Khalid https://gns3.com/qa/how-to-do-wireshark-capture-on-w looks like remote capture is not yet supported. It will be supported on GNS3 v1.4 but as of now the latest version is v1.3.13

many thanks to you for your help : )

you're welcome khalid, I suggest using ubuntu because it is more efficient with RAM and GNS3 runs great with it. For the tutorial follow it here

  • Now I have 2-Question

1-) martin did you meant monitor capture ( IOU ) and send it to my physical host ?

2-) wich version of IOU does  support MPLS-VPN I configured it maultiple times on IOU also C7200 S4 so hope you recommend a version

    Many thanks in Advance

  • Well, I got it suppose my IOU 192.168.56.101 and my PHYSICAL HOST is 192.168.1.x

what is the command should I  issue to get the .pcap file

  • I use my IOU inside virtualbox Network:Host-only

I don't attach to my IOUs inside GNS3 any other IOSes , BUT I can attach a generic EtherSW or HUB

not sure where this capture is in Cisco DocCD thing online...

    From the Config Guides:

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/ios-nx-os-software/ios-15-5m-t/products-installation-and-configuration-guides-list.html

Click the Embedded Management Config Guide->Embedded Packet Capture Config Guide:

    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/epc/configuration/15-mt/epc-15-mt-book/nm-packet-capture.html

    Hope this helps!

1-) martin did you meant monitor capture ( IOU ) and send it to my physical host ?

Yes, as Martin said you can put the MS Loopback interface and put it in GNS3 so the GNS3 routers can upload or export the capture to your physical host since in the current version of GNS3 you can't use the Wireshark feature of GNS3 in windows, but in linux you can.

2-) wich version of IOU does  support MPLS-VPN I configured it maultiple times on IOU also C7200 S4 so hope you recommend a version

What commands are not being taken by the IOU? it should be supported since I believe it is the images used for the CCIE lab exams.

Looks like your problem was already solved based on https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/91147

"Wireshark feature of GNS3 in windows, but in linux you can. "

    - interesting.... I used Ubuntu and Gns3 in the past but not recently.  Its unlikly we have same iou as cisco does in real exam;

Yes it is interesting, IOU can run natively in linux that's why you can use the Wireshark feature while in Windows the IOU images are uploaded in a VM.

Post on CLN is about something else.   https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/thread/91147

    What does Khalidology mean?

It is somehow related I believe since he is asking what IOU version supports MPLS VPN and his post in CLN is about his configs for MPLS is not working in IOU and other IOS images.

    HTH,
    Tim

    Hope this helps!
