v4 Full Scale Labs in Workbook

Logged in today and noticed that the full scale labs section has been removed from the v4 workbook, I know the labs wernt there anyway but had assumed that they would at somepoint be added.

Am I to now assume that these arent happening? would be disapointing if that is the case.

The SP program seems to be the orphan of all the CCIE materials.  I think it is like this with all vendors.  Even Cisco hasn't provided any books, but they have live training.  (I would love to get a hold of those "official" classroom materials).

I am not sure why this is, because SP is the logical next step for a dual-CCIE.  There is about 25% overlap with the RS materials

It would be great if INE can give us an idea of what we can expect with the SP program.   Will there be more materials?   CCNA-SP/CCNP-SP  materials for reviewing technologies?   Will the CCIE-SPv4 workbook be completed?

I cannot answer about the differences.  I only know that there is about a 25% overlap with RS (good thing), and the exam has changed to the new format with a diagnostics section.   SP-v4 materials are not completed, and v3 seems to be the only option. I have been using it for L2VPN studies.

I see a lot of new repetitive materials for RS and other tracks, as well as for other non-cisco tech studies.   Bigger library is great, but the question remains.  If anyone has any information regarding INE's plans for the SP track, please let the forum know.

Not a super big deal for me yet, but planning is a pillar of CCIE studies. Right?      And of course, to the opening poster's point, what about fullscale labs?

Again, I think that this issue with SP materials is with all vendors.   But if possible, I want to know the INE plans.  I would like to do my second track with them.

I agree there was/is a good overlap. I think v3 was even more than 25% as it was primarily focused around BGP and MPLS. Even BrianM mentioned that during the initial intro saying that a solid foundation on R&S topics was expected. As for what has changed they briefly covered on this blog post; New CCIE Service Provider Version 4.0 Blueprint Announced

If INE could comment on these two points it would be great. I'm also interest to know the answer to these questions.

Rather than guessing, I kind of prefer that an INE person let us know. Simple question.  What is the estimated timeline for Service Provider materials and labs?

I receive frequent marketing emails about the new AAP courses.....but nothing for SP so far (CCNA-SP, CCNP-SP, CCIE-SP).

Even if they are taking their time with the SP course, it would still be great to get some specific SP technology videos -- like they are doing for RS.

Maybe there needs to be a forum section for AAP users, so that we can make requests for course materials and topics.

  • Ive put a ticket into support asking the questions so will wait and see what they say, have just noticed that IP Expert have release dates for their lab books both being available by the end of January. Hopefully INE will follow with some dates soon!

Thanks for doing this Sean.  Please let us know if you learn a solid answer to this.   I fear that maybe this will not be until next year.  Why?  Because not enough people are requesting it.  So, INE Is off making videos about everything else (people grumble outside the forum about SP materials).

This morning I was talking to someone who is trying to learn L2VPNs.  I told him to look at the "Service Provider" materials (v3 for l2vpn videos).  They said that they had looked, but INE is only advertising the v4 curriculum (not finished).   Lot's of confusion out there.

These things only get fixed if there are enough SP candidates speaking up and requesting the SP materials.  I believe in INE study materials.  BrianM is my favorite instructor.  But we need timelines -- for planning.

  • Most of the videos (http://streaming.ine.com/c/ccie-sp-v4-advanced-technologies) and
    workbook (http://labs.ine.com/workbook/view/service-provider-v4/) are
complete.  I’m still working on adding the other sections to the videos,
like L2VPN and TE.  Some of this is covered in the previous blueprint’s
    videos here - http://streaming.ine.com/c/ccie-sp-atc-v3

I’m working on the updates as we speak, and they’ll be posted
incrementally around other classes that I have.  There’s a section on
Unified MPLS that’ll be added to the videos either late this week or early next
week to start, and other content on LISP that will be posted soon.  I
can’t give you a hard timeline, but I am working on it.

In the meantime I would go through the recommended readings that
I talk about in the intro section of the class, and work through all the lab
sections on L3VPN, which is by far the biggest focus of the exam.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks for the update Brian, can you confirm if there will be any full scale lab scenarios added to the workbook please? initially it looked like this would be the case although the index of the workbook has now changed to not include these?

  • Yes there will be.  I removed them because they haven't been updated yet.  If you want to reference the previous labs you can still find them here under the SPv3 workbook (http://labs.ine.com/workbook/view/service-provider-v3/)

    Hi Brian,

I am really glad to hear this news.   Even though some of these topics are already in the SPv3 series, I really like to see the new videos by you. They reinforce the topics for me.

Maybe there can be a sub-forum for AAP users, where we can make topic requests.

Big thanks for the update on the SP materials.  Excited to see new material from you.

  • Hi Brian!

Could you please comfirm the final topology for the workbook and full scale labs?

  • I can see www.591lab.com is providing training for SP v4.

  • Yeah I was hoping to see some full scale labs in the workbook by now, seems there really is no other option now IP Expert has folded.

@Brian is there any chance of full scale labs appearing anytime soon? There's a mobile lab coming to London in December that is like to aim for but really could do with some full scale practise!

  • I take it INE have not provided any information in reponse to this post which means no full scale labs are availble.

So what can be done to bench mark readiness, is V3 labs the answer?

  • To be hoenst it is a shame that we are not getting updates from INE after the money we invested. Nodoby seems to look at this forum anymore even thought there are plenty of students that they bought the INE Workbook.

  • Hello Brian,

Do you have an estimated date by when the Full Scale labs for SPv4 would be available?

    Thanks and best regards,

  • Hello everyone, i wanted to update the situation with a statement Brian has made over on reddit about this:
