OSPF Forward Address

Usually with OSPF you solve the shortest path towards to the node who owns a link for that destination prefix rather than directly to the destination prefix itself . I want to know, when a router does a type 7 to type 5 translation and sets a non-zero value for the forwarding address, is this the ONLY time we route to the destination and not the node who owns it? Have I got this right?

  • When the ABR makes the 7-5 translation, it PRESERVES the FA value as seen from the type 7 LSA, but you can configure the ABR to suppress the FA, which means to set it to zero (0.0.0.0).
