UCS-B -> NPV 5K -> NPIV MDS
Hi Folks,
I'm having issues getting NPV to work on the nexus 5k. I believe I have everything configured correctly but the VFC port won't login to the VSAN.
On my N5K I have the following:
interface fc2/3
switchport mode NP
switchport trunk allowed vsan 100
no shutdown
interface Ethernet1/7
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,100
spanning-tree port type edge trunk
channel-group 7 mode active
interface port-channel7
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,100
spanning-tree port type edge trunk
speed 10000
interface vfc7
bind interface port-channel7
switchport trunk allowed vsan 100
switchport trunk mode on
no shutdown
The upstream appears ok at the moment. The interface status for vfc7 is:
vfc7 is trunking
Bound interface is port-channel7
Hardware is Ethernet
Port WWN is 20:06:00:05:73:b6:60:3f
Admin port mode is F, trunk mode is on
snmp link state traps are enabled
Port mode is TF
Port vsan is 100
Trunk vsans (admin allowed and active) (100)
Trunk vsans (up) ()
Trunk vsans (isolated) ()
Trunk vsans (initializing) (100)

1 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec

0 discards, 0 errors

On the 6248 the vfc bound to the port channel is showing:
DC-6248-1-A(nxos)# sh int vfc 750
vfc750 is trunking (Not all VSANs UP on the trunk)
Bound interface is port-channel1
Hardware is Virtual Fibre Channel
Port WWN is 22:ed:54:7f:ee:df:cc:ff
Admin port mode is NP, trunk mode is on
snmp link state traps are enabled
Port mode is TNP
Port vsan is 100
Trunk vsans (admin allowed and active) (1,100-101)
Trunk vsans (up) ()
Trunk vsans (isolated) ()
Trunk vsans (initializing) (1,100-101)

My understanding is only one vsan will login but all vsans will work. In this case I only allow VSAN 100. I've tried all combinations of VSANs, but adding VSANs doesn't seem to solve the problem. In essence I only want to allow VSAN 100 on my A side of the fabric. I had this working fine when the switch wasn't working in NPV mode.
Can anyone provide some guidance on what may be causing my greif?
Take Care
Jason

I think your topology (nested NPV) is not supported:

Even though you are using northbound FCoE on UCS, I think the same topology and limitations apply.
ajCCIE2b has it right. Nested NPV while a technological possibility, is
not currently supported on NXOS. You need to have your N5K in NPIV
mode, and then just a standard E port from N5K to MDS
