UCS FCoE Uplink port - WWPNs not seen in FLOGI table

If a blade (using a Service Profile) doesn't login in the FLOGI table of the NEX5500UP, what could be the issue? The uplink is FCoE from UCS B Series to NEX5500UP and everything is configured properly. I can see the WWPN of the UCS' FCoE port, but I am not seeing the Blade's WWPN. In this article the 5K can see many WWPNs under the vfc port:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-manager/116188-configure-fcoe-00.html

Take note I have configured 'feature NPIV' on the N5K, VSAN creation, VLAN to VSAN mapping, the correct eth trunk, correct vfc port trunking and it's bound to the correct eth port. The vfc port should not show the UCS' FCoE port in the FLOGI if FCoE config is wrong on the N5K. Could a reboot solve this issue?

Thanks in advance!

  • Check the system policy on the nexus 5500 and make sure fcoe cos 3 is mtu 2112 with pause no-drop. Most importantly make sure this system policy is applied to the system.

  • What does "show npv external-interface-usage" say from the FIs?  You need to make sure the VFC towards the blade is properly pinned to the FC uplink that goes towards your 5Ks.

Thanks..Other FCoE nodes from physical servers are logged in so I assume my FCoE QoS is okay (though I didnt check it specifically).

I dont have access anymore as I barrowed resources only. I will check and try to troubleshoot once I have access. Thanks Brian for the tip. BTW, if FCoE QoS is fine and pinning on the FI is fine, what else should I look? AFAIK, even the zoning is not configured yet, atleast the WWPN of the Blade should show up in the N5K's FLOGI table..

I dont have access to the UCS/N5K anymore as I borrowed resources only. I will check and try to troubleshoot once I have access again. Thanks Brian for the tip.

I just had the change to re-create and the WWPNs of the Blade of UCS was able to log in at NPIV N5Ks. I think my QoS was messed up in my issue earlier.

I can also see the Blade's vfc to uplink FCoE vfc mapping, which works fine.

Here's the vfc, veth, and e1/1/x configs (from Blade's vfc to FCoE NP uplink mapping).

I managed to re-create the issue. I removed the 'network-qos fcoe-default-nq-policy' and I was able to get the same problem I had, which is only the UCS' port is present in the NPIV switch. Thanks for the suggestion.
