WB5 - initial configurations - reload after each task?!

This may seem a completely daft thing to ask, but hey ho, I'll accept any abuse for posting this!!

On the previous WBs, each particular section stated which INITIAL CONFIGURATION to load up; you may do 5-10 tasks without reloading the configurations - but it was very clearly stated "Erase and reload all devices and load the EIGRP Routing initial" etc etc.

On WB5, on the web version, it states "A Note On Section Initial Configuration Files: You must load the initial configuration files for the section, named Basic IP Addressing" at the top of every single task.

Now, this opens up the interpretation of "SECTION".  Does this mean that we keep adding to the initial configuration for all tasks within sections - i.e. RIP, EIGRP, OSPF etc... or does this mean load the initial configuration after every task...

I think my main moan here is that the old workbooks seems to be MUCH clearer in which configurations to use and when... I won't mention the numbering of tasks again as I have been told in no uncertain terms that numbering of tasks will not return... bummer!!

  • The idea is that each task is independent of each other.  This way you can start and any point at any lab without having to have done the previous labs.

“reloading” the boxes is simpler than you think.  If you write the initial config to flash you can do a “config replace” to it and the “reload” only takes like 5 seconds.  The point is to get the config back to a well known working state before working on additional tasks.

  • You had me at "This way you can start and any point at any lab without having to have done the previous labs."

    Perfect, perfect, perfect.

Maybe I am slowly coming round to the way of the WB5 mentality...!

    Many thanks (again) Brian!
