Numbering of tasks in WB5

Hi all,

I have suggested feedback to INE, but not received an acknowledgement yet.

So.  The new workbook (WB5) is very similar to WB1V5, which I love.  But do you think we could have the tasks numbered in the early sections so that:

(a) we know where we are (tick list) when working through the book.

(b) can reference tasks easily when we post things in the IEOC forums.

Previously, it was easy to ask "what is the solution for task 4.13" etc etc.

Just a thought to make life a little easier!

Thanks, Neil.

I also liked the numbering system, but there was a problem when they started removing and adding tasks.

Back when they were revising the workbooks to online,  I sent a support ticket to INE.  They acknowledged that it was an issue, and mentioned that they were going to try and get away from the numbering.

As far as  "workbook feedback", I don't think that I have ever received a response from the editing team.  Maybe they are too busy.  I was told not to worry, all tickets were being looked at.  ;-)

What I do know (or was told), is that the editing team is now separate from the INE support ticketing system.   So for me, no ticket# makes it difficult to follow up with the editing team about submitted feedback.  Why spend time giving feedback on tasks, if there is no response?   Again, maybe this issue is temporary. They are just too busy making labs for us. ;-)

  • Agree. I would prefer the checkboxes as well. At ATC videos, it's awesome! It would be great at the Workbooks as well.

  • Has anyone had any feedback on any of these issues?

    1. Numbering of tasks

    2. The "spoiler" alert with the answers on each task

    3. Checkboxes on the tasks.

I've email INE directly but nothing back yet.

    Thanks,

  • Numbering of tasks we’re not adding back.  I’ll talk to web development about adding the checkboxes for tasks or something similar.

What does the “spoiler alert” mean?

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • V5 Work Book Check boxes would be great as most of us are using Evernote with the Blue Print Imported that also has check boxes for tasks.

    Thanks....

  • Morning Sir

    SPOILER ALERT.

This is when you are working on a task in the WB5 online version.  Click on a task and the configuration gets loaded onto the page at the same time as the task and you end up inadvertently looking at part of the solution before you've had the chance to look at the task... i.e. your sneaky side tries to force you to get clues...!

Now, I know that you can click on "CONFIGURATION" and the solution scrolls up and hides, but it would be good it this was the default action when loading the page and clicking on a task.

    Many thanks, Neil.

  • I absolutely agree with that!

  • Hi all,

I assume that you've seen this, but it looks like the developers of the website have listened and now have a "CLICK TO EXPAND" button on the solution/configuration... so no more sneaky peeks!

    Thanks INE!

    Regards, Neil.

  • There’s also now a Table of Contents that you can check off which tasks you’re done:

  • We’ve been collecting your feedback on online workbooks, and we’re pleased to announce the following updates:

    • We have added a Table of Contents landing page that mirrors the design of our video playlists. Just click the workbook title at the top of any page to access the Table of Contents.

    • You can track your progress by selecting check boxes for each task or lab, either on the new Table of Contents page or at the top of any topic.

    • Configuration sections are now hidden (collapsed) by default.

    • You may now save more than one bookmark at a time.

    • You can access all your bookmarks at the top of the new Table of Contents page.

    • When you load the Table of Contents, you are asked if you want to go to your last saved bookmark. Dismissing this prompt prevents it from reappearing for two days.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Kristen,

This is all excellent.  I think this is massive leap forward and will help everyone who uses the WB5 on the web.

It has made life much, much easier.  Many thanks for listening and updating.

Last question - how do you delete your saved bookmarks on the ToC?

    Many thanks, Neil.

  • Thanks for the feedback Neil.  You can now click the x next to the bookmark to delete it from the table of contents page.   Please let us know if there are any other features you would like to see.

    -Richard.

  • Awesome news, thank you guys!

  • Hi Richard,

Not currently seeing any X next to the bookmarks on the ToC - but love the idea.  Will this be placed in your PROD environment soon?

    .....

Other features.  Numbering of tasks... now I know I've mentioned it several times and it's not going to happen as INE need to update and slide in new tasks in between existing tasks as well as keeping them separate from the Lab Work... however...

    I've been thinking!

Could you not label the sections (RIP, OSPF, IP ROUTING etc) with LETTERS and the tasks within the sections with NUMBERS that are spaced apart (in steps of 5) to allow new tasks to be inserted...? i.e. RIP - RIPv2 AUTHENTICATION would be C.10 (C = 3rd section, 10 = task #2)

This would allow INE to slide in C.11 and the lettering would make it clear that it's not a lab.

    .....

Reason for this is so that we can use the IEOC forums (like with previous WBs) and post the title "Having issues with task D.35 - any ideas"... and people would know what we are talking about easily...

Appreciate that it's a tall order, but I know many people have mentioned this previously.

    Thanks, Neil.

  • It's currently in production, you might need to clear your cache and try again.  Notice the x comes after the date on the line of the bookmark.  You won't see the "My Bookmarks" section if you're not logged in or if you do not have any bookmarks.  Try creating one then navigate back to the ToC landing page.
