CCIE RSv5 Physical Lab Topology

On the CCIE RSv5 Phyical Lab Topology, I believe R1-R10 is connected to a switch (hub). Does the switch(hub) connect directly to SW1-SW-4?

Thanks

  • only 1  SW is needed unless u want practice switching topics

  • So, if the switch is breakout device for R1-R10 (10  Routers) and SW1-SW4( 4 switches). What is the base configuration for the breakout switch?

  • Just set all ports to 802.1q trunks or 802.1q tunnels.  Something like:

    Interface range Fa0/1 – 24

    Switchport mode dot1q-tunnel

    Switchport access vlan 1

    No shut

The only thing the switch needs to do is carried the tagged packets between ports.

  • Thank you Brian for your quick response ! Brian, how about the serial cable connections to each router? On the RSv4 Topology, I seen the ethernet cabling and Serial cabling. However, on the RSv5, I don't see any physical serial connections between each router?

  • There's no serial ports in our RSv5 topology.

  • Thanks Brian,

Question, on rs-v5 workbook on page 2 of 2197: R3 is connected to R1/R2/R7 and DMVPN. Brian, maybe i am missing something. However, if R1.....R10 is connected to a breakout switch, how does these devices communicate? Basically, it appears that R3 have 4 ports.

  • 1 cable but many subinterfaces; look at initial configs, u see sub-interfaces with vlans.

the main interface is no ip and no shut; then subinteface X will have encapsulation dot1Q X where X is vlan id; next one is subinterface Y with encapsulation dot1Q Y.

  • Thank you sir....

  • Can I use a IOL as a breaksout switch as well as use it for my 4 switches?

I think new GNS3 allows use iol switch images.
