OSPF Null Authentication task V5 workbook

Guys, I am not sure why Brian decided to include the process level command but jus to clarify, does these two solutions achive the same goal as far as the question is concern?

Both ensure all other area 2 routers are not affected by the authentication.

Solution 1:

R7:

router ospf 1

 area 2 authentication

!

interface GigabitEthernet1.79

 ip ospf authentication-key PASSWORD

!

interface GigabitEthernet1.37

 ip ospf authentication null

!

interface GigabitEthernet1.67

 ip ospf authentication null

R9:

interface GigabitEthernet1.79

 ip ospf authentication

 ip ospf authentication-key PASSWORD

==============================================

Solution 2:

R7:

interface GigabitEthernet1.79

 ip ospf authentication

 ip ospf authentication-key PASSWORD

R9:

interface GigabitEthernet1.79

 ip ospf authentication

 ip ospf authentication-key PASSWORD

  • They do achieve the same thing, but the devil is in the details.

The tasks explicitly states to configre authentication at the are level on R7 and the interface level on R9. Since doing this at the area level required the OSPF process level command, you have to go back and set the authentication to Null on any other interfaces in the area that are NOT connected to R9.

Since on R9 you do not have to do this at the process level, simply configuring the authentication commands at the interfaces accomplishes the same thing.

  • Thanks gungnir77,

I blame the late night sleepy eyes.. I'd read that question over and over to see Brian's perspective but could not just see.

Reading it again now it almost seems like its a different question.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi,

Task wording is very important and so is the content of it. You should concentrate and make a habit of doing process-switching when reading the task, at least the first time you read it, as every word is very important.

    Good luck !

  • I completely understand. I do that constantly too!

I use others to help kick me back on track with the details that change my whole perspective.
