autorp pim listener

Can anyone explain in detail how using auto rp listener propogates the mapping agent and RP through a sparse mode multicast domain?

I understand that using sparse-dense allows 224.0.1.40 and .39 to be dense to discover, and that using bsr the RP is encapped in the PIM messages, I just don't know exactly what the listener command propoagtes the RP using autorp through all links running sparse.

thanks

    Hi,

When using Auro-RP, A router can't joint the auto-RP groups without knowing the RPs address. Likewise, it doesn't even know where the RP is without joining the auto-RP groups. In order to address this issue, we can use "autorp listener" feature. It allows the multicast router to run "dense-mode" for 224.0.1.39 & 224.0.1.40 groups. All the other groups woud run sparse-mode though.

    Hope this helps.
