VPNs in v5 blue print

Hi ALL,

I have been playing a bit with section 3.0 VPN technologies in v5.

They are asking about MPLS VPN, GRE,DMVPN,IPsec etc. Do we need to cover these topics for IPv6 as well. I only see IPv6 in IPv4 tunnels related discussion in section 3.2a which is a subsection of 3.2

Please comment.

Thanks

  • I don't know exactly how INE is going to train it but for anything layer three that might be routeable via the VPN process or option I'm going to learn it both ipv4 and ipv6. My reason to do it this way is you never know what the customer may be running, better to over prepare then to have to sit on the doc site trying to figure it out

    Hth

    Murad,

Please refer to the VPN tehnologies section on the following link:

    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-22706

If you look into the blueprint for V5, they have mentioned that you will be tested the VPN technologies for both the protocol stacks. So, I believe it's for both the IPv6 & IPv4.

    Good luck!

  • Hi Hari,

Where do you see in this document that they have written that the candidates will be tested for VPNs in both routing protocol stacks?

The only subsection in VPN technologies is 3.2a which is about IPv6 in IPv4 tunnels, that's it.

    Thanks

  • As we have IGPs for both stacks, then Cisco might come up with some combination of IP4 and IP6 and make a VPN configuration senario in the lab. This is possible like IPv6 on customer side and IPv4 in provider backbone etc.

It's located right here as you mentioned:

3.2.a Implement and troubleshoot IPsec with preshared key

    • 3.2.a [i] IPv4 site to IPv4 site
    • 3.2.a [ii] IPv6 in IPv4 tunnels
    • 3.2.a [iii] Virtual tunneling interface [VTI]
I consider this as a VPN for both the protocol stacks.

The only subsection in VPN technologies is 3.2a which is about IPv6 in IPv4 tunnels, that's it.

No, this is not the 6-to-4 tunneling kind of "tunnel", it's about IPsec VPN tunnel with encryption.

    Hope you got the point.
  • What i understand here is that IPv6 will be transported in v4 IPsec tunnels, not the other way around. Correct me if i am wrong.

    Thanks

  • since they removed the individual ipv6 section included in all the layer three routing wouldn't it make more sense To just study ipv4 and ipv6 for everything I'm not just learning the ipv4 party I'm learning ipv4 and ipv6 for the routing, VPN and tunneling sections as well
