Limiting routes in BGP
I hope I'm in the right area to ask this question.
The command to limit the amount of routes learnt from a neighbor is straight forward enough.
#router bgp 100
#neighbor 172.16.1.1 maximum-prefix 2000 80
Once the amount of routes learnt hits the 80% threshold an alarm warning is generated.
However is there a way of doing this in the other direction i.e. from the Router advertising the routes out? The reason is not to rely on the remote network to manage this message but for the provider to proactively monitor it and take action before the BGP peer is taken down because the limit has been reached.
The maximum routes command in a VRF is a close fit but not ideal.
Can this be done ? Any suggestions from the INE community.
