how to remove eigrp summary discard route

im having one of those braindead moments-- if i have an eigrp summary discard route , eg..

D    192.168.0.0/21 is a summary, 00:13:07, Null0

how do i turn this into unreachable AD  255?

  • Any route that is being pointed into Null0 refers that it's unreachable. It only covers the subnetworks that specifically belong to this summary i.e. 192.168.0.0/21. Other routes like 172.16.0.0/24 are not covered by this summary.

I don't understand why you want to turn this into AD 255 since it's already unreachable.

Additionally, if you want to change the AD to unreachable for other routes, you can configure like this:

    R4(config-router)#distance 255 10.1.1.1 0.0.0.0 1

    R4(config)#do sh access-list

    Standard IP access list 1

        10 permit 192.168.1.0, wildcard bits 0.0.0.255

    Hope this helps!

  • hi Hari,

i have a senario where it's asking me to 'set the Administrative Distance of the discard route to 255' , i guess so it doesnt appear in the routing table at all.  I dont have a solution to this -- was just something i found interesting.

  • All you should have to do is specify the distance as 255 on the summary-address command.

    Hi,

You could write the summary-route with AD 255 since it has AD 5 by default.

    R3(config-if)#ip summary-address eigrp 100 192.168.0.0 255.255.248.0 255

Now, the summary-route to null0 doesn't exist due to the unreachable AD.

    Good luck!
