7.1 - QoS

Hi

solution is applying policing on class default in parent class. But interface has also traffic from abc123 vrf and that will be policed too. So I think it should be applied to xyzclass on parent policy also. Anyone has any comment?

class-map match-all xyzclass
  match access-group 20
policy-map child
  class xyzclass
   police cir 500000
     conform-action set-prec-transmit 4
     exceed-action set-prec-transmit 1
     violate-action set-prec-transmit 1
policy-map parent
  class class-default
   police cir 1500000
   service-policy child

My solution

class-map match-all xyzclass
  match access-group 20
!
!
policy-map child
  class xyzclass
   police cir 500000
     conform-action set-prec-transmit 4
     exceed-action set-prec-transmit 1
     violate-action set-prec-transmit 1
policy-map parent
  class xyzclass
   police cir 1500000
   service-policy child

thank you

  • one addition, this is only for router R1. others shouldn't have this issue.

  • Hard time understanding why we need a hierarchical policy map, can we not do the following:

    policy-map test
     class class-default
      police cir 500000 pir 1500000
        conform-action set-prec-transmit 4
        exceed-action set-prec-transmit 1
        violate-action drop

  • Why are you having a hard time Abhi??

    Ask yourself this:

    Does the hierachical map solution work??

    Does your solution work??

    Well, the answer for both is YES, so both solutions are correct, the 1st polices the policed traffic =O  and the 2nd is a 3 rate policer. As the lab has no "special requests" both answers are right. Which method do I prefer? the same you used, just because I prefer 1 policy-map.

  • six months ago, i passed so I am not current ..

    But what i do know from my two CCIE ventures is KISS: Keep it Short and Simple

    Thats why I feel complex solutions should be avoided in the exam.

  • Hello Experts,

    Is there a difference between

    policy-map MARK
     class class-default
      police cir 500000 bc 7812 be 15625
        conform-action set-prec-transmit 4
        exceed-action set-prec-transmit 1
        violate-action drop

    and

    policy-map MARK
     class class-default
      police cir 500000
        conform-action set-prec-transmit 4
        exceed-action set-prec-transmit 1
        violate-action set-prec-transmit 1
    policy-map POLICE
     class class-default
       police 1500000
      service-policy MARK

    ?

    Thanks in advance!
