  • Create a schedule to study with ... I used the following as a basis:

    http://blog.ine.com/2010/10/09/how-to-pass-the-ccie-rs-with-ines-4-0-training-program/

It outlines a study plan with all 4 workbooks.

I then use the AAP advanced tech / deep dive / bootcamp VoDs to strengthen my knowledge.

PS: From the blog post, don't just do the numbers list for Volume 1 workbook ... "Vol 1: 1 through 15" ... I think that is from an old workbook version.  Do as many as you can, ideally all of them.

  • Hi,
Thanks for your inputs. I am also looking for help on how to login to the devices for the first time and setting up the configuration files etc..
Is there any information to get started with the physical lab itself?

    Thanks

  • Log in to your account and go to "rack rentals" on the left hand side of the screen.  Click on "Rack Resources" under CCIE Routing & Switching and choose "Rack Rental Guide" from the drop down.  There's a PDF of the same info somewhere, but I con't have a URL.

  • Hmmm.  Actually that method appears to be missing a lot of info, or I can't find it if it's there.  If you go to workbooks and then workbook 1 there's a PDF at the bottom of the list that's called "rack rental guide" - I think that's the one you want.

I assume you are starting with Volume 1 - if so you need to choose the relevant starting config which will be downloaded to your devices prior to your session starting.

Using your preferred telnet client connect to racks.ine.com and enter the required username and password - for your rack rental.  You will now be connected to a terminal server you can connect to each device using the name R1 to R6 and SW1 to SW4.  Once connected to an initial device use ctrl-shift 6 and then x to return to the terminal server.

Then you are good to go with your lab.  To get the best from your session make sure that you understand the technology you are about to configure and the relevant verification commands.

Alternatively you can connect to each device individually.

  • There are many ways to connect to the equipment, but if you use Secure CRT which I would recommend for work and training then I have been using this method for a long time to connect to each device separately

Before you start your rack session open up workbook 1 and see what initial configuration you should load and then get that loaded before hand so as soon as you log in you are ready to go.

Then just open up workbook 1 and get started, I like to work late in the evening and with headphones and music others prefer the morning.

The key is getting into the study zone!
