  • What is the exact IOS version that you are using?

    There are some limitations to IOS 15 for the 7200 in GNS3. Also, make sure that you unpack it before you try to boot your router. This is the exact image name that I use on my 7200s in GNS3 when I want to run IOS 15

    c7200-adventerprisek9_sna-mz.150-1.M.bin.unpacked

    This version has been quite stable for me...I like another version better though, which is the one that I almost always use:

    c7200-advipservicesk9-mz.122-33.SRE2.image

    Hope this helps

  • Are you sure your 15.0 is supported by dynamips? IIRC it doesn't support all binaries, I don't have a full list here.

  • Would you be willing to share your .net for the IOS?

  • Sure, but the .net does not have any major influence to the IOS version that I am running.

    What would be your purpose in seeing my .net file? Not that I don't want to share it, I just want to know your logic in troubleshooting your issue so that I can better help you.

    Here is the relavant portion of one of my .net files, it shows how a 7200 is configured under the 1st hypervisor as well as the version of IOS 15 that I am running on it.

    autostart = False

    version = 0.8.3.1

    [127.0.0.1:7202]

        workingdir = F:

        udp = 10200

        [[7200]]

            image = E:GNS3 FolderCisco IOS for GNS3c7200-adventerprisek9_sna-mz.150-1.M.bin.unpacked

            idlepc = 0x60779618

            idlemax = 100

            sparsemem = True

            ghostios = True

        [[ROUTER R5]]

            console = 2005

            aux = 2505

            cnfg = configsR5.cfg

            slot1 = PA-8E

            e1/0 = R4 e1/1

            e1/1 = R6 e1/0

            e1/2 = R11 e1/0

            e1/3 = R12 e1/0

            x = 23.0

            y = 66.8284271247

            z = 1.0

    If you are having issues, I would suggest to remove GNS3 and reinstall the newest version. Then, get an normal IOS image (not an unpacked version) and add it to GNS3. A new feature is that GNS3 will unpack the image for you, so I like letting it upack it how it chooses to do so.

  • Well, i was curious if i needed to specify the RAM, NVRAM or disks since the error message seemed to identify a problem with the bootflash.

    I was not aware a "new" gns3 version was out.  when did it come out?

    As for the ios, i'm using c7200p-advipservicesk9-mz.151-4.M.bin.  I read on some of the gns3 forums people did get that ios to work, but they did not mention what setting they used, what version of dynamips, ect...

  • I don't think the 7200p images are supported as they require a newer supervisor.

  • 15.0(1)M will run.  I figured out how to get it to run a while back, but some how cannot get 15.1(4)M to run; which other people hare able to get running also.  I do not know why my router keeps having an exception error.  I think perhaps i may have an issue with the npe type.

  • I tested IOS 15.2 on GNS3 using a Cisco 7200 image, and it works fine. I think your issue could be resolved by upgrading your GNS3 installation to the latest version.

    I am using this IOS for some feature testing on 15.x on GNS C7200-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 15.1(4)M4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1). My router boots without any error.

    Good Luck
