ccnp voice lab

hello,

I'm just starting my ccnp-voice studies and i want to have a personal home lab to work on while i self study for the 5 exams.  Can anyone suggest a complete device listing that would adequately aid me in my studies?

I was looking at this,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CISCO-CCNA-CCNP-VOICE-home-lab-kit-1-Year-Warranty-2811-7940-3550-PEO-SWITCH-/251081044404?pt=US_Network_Switches&hash=item3a7598b1b4

but i would like a professionals opinion/suggestion.

Thanks in advance

  • It really depends on what your end-goal is. If you are going to press on for the CCIE, it could be advantageous to buy a CCIE Voice lab. That, however, will cost considerably more.

For CCNP Voice, I'd recommend having at least two routers (2801s) and two switches (3550s or 3650s), four phones, and a computer to run ESXi on, complete with CUCM, UCXN, CUP, and UCCX. If you have an older desktop on hand, you could recycle that as an ESXi host.

Here's a server that a friend of mine uses for ESXi:

  • Thanks for your response.

Yes, CCIE is my ultimate goal.

Would it suffice to purchase 2x the lab I provided the link for, which would essentially provide the configuration you described?  I already have an old desktop that I can use to run ESXi.

  • Here is a list of the equipment used in the lab.  Whatever you put together for a lab, try to make sure it covers as much of this as possible.  Some substitutions can be made. For example, a 2801 router will suffice for both the 2821 and 3825 ISRs.  You could also use an older switch instead of the 3750, however be sure to read up on the 3750 in order to know how many ingress/egree queues it has and other product-specific information when it comes to QoS.

    Does this help?

    Lab Equipment:

        Cisco MCS-7845 Media Convergence Servers
