MWI and CUC

Hi,

im running CUC 7 with CUCM via SCCP integration. MWI itself is working ( i can dial from the phones and it turns on and off). Integration itself is working fine, i can leave a message, delete message etc. But the MWI never turn on or off. I also worked throught the Troubleshooting guide found here

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/troubleshooting/guide/7xcuctsg050.html#wp1053866

I redid the entire integration to make sure i wasnt stumbling over some inherant troubleshooting stuff. Dont trust myself etc ;)

I just installed the Unity Port Monitor - here is the output from calling from Jack to Hugos Phone. Not sure but id expect to see a message going out to lit his phone's MWI right? Any hints? ;)

Comments

  • To add -

when checking the user(mailbox) and go to Edit -> Message Waiting Indicators, the current status is OFF even though there is a new mail in the inbox.

  • To answer my own questions;)

    1) as far as the log output goes - no, the MWI notification is not visible in the log output

    2) as far as fixing goes - i restarted the notifier service and it worked right away, Christmas tree mode on my desk.

    I found another doc -

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6509/products_tech_note09186a0080b2ed0b.shtml

From Support -> Product Support -> Voice and UC -> Cisco Unity Connection -> Tshoot and Alerts -> Tshoot Technotes

    1. Navigate to the Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability page.

    2. Stop the Connection Notifier service.

    3. Start the Connection Notifier service.

Note: This is documented in Cisco bug ID CSCtn05523 (registered customers only)

  • Falko,

If you can dial the MWI ports from your phone to turn on/off MWI, that's great!

Let me ask you this from a CUCM standpoint:

    • What partition are your MWI on/off numbers located in?
    • What partition are your SCCP voicemail ports located in?
    • What CSS is assigned to your phone (and what partitions are contained therein)?
    • What CSS is assigned to your voicemail ports (and what partitions are contained therein)?

I want to make sure that the SCCP ports have the correct CSS. They need to be able to "call" the MWI numbers.  If their CSS is missing the partition for the MWI numbers then Connection won't be able to "call" and turn on/off the MWI.

    From a UCXN standpoint:
    • Do you have your MWI on/off numbers defined in your port group settings?
    • Are your SCCP voicemail ports configured to be used as MWI ports?
Check those things out and let me know what you find.

    Matthew

  • Thanks Matthew -

all valid points which i spend the last hour on verifying ;) Good to have this gathered in one thread so fellow students might find a solution/guide in the future.

As it turns out, everything was configured spot on, just the notifier service took a hit.

Thanks again for checking into this!
