Task 2.5 IGP Redistribution

Hi,

Would anyone able to explain if the manipulation of AD for routes learned via RIP is needed as shown in SG.

I personally don't see there's a need to do the below configuration. Perhaps I could be wrong.

SW1:

router rip

redistribute eigrp 100 metric 15

distance 171 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 RIP_AD

ip access-list standard permit RIP_AD

permit 148.1.68.0 0.0.0.255

permit 148.1.8.0 0.0.0.255

permit 148.1.0.0 0.0.0.255

permit 148.1.6.0 0.0.0.255

permit 148.1.4.0 0.0.0.255

permit 148.1.18.0 0.0.0.255

permit 192.10.1.0 0.0.0.255

you are asked to mutually redistribute from EIGRP into RIP and viceversa

RIP routes (AD120) will get into EIGRP as D_EX with AD170.. and they will never go back to RIP since 170>120

EIGRP EX routes (AD170) they will get into RIP with AD120 and since 120<170 they will get redistribute back into EIGRP. This creates a loop.

I setup distance 171 for external routes also in R3 (SG does not mention that)

  • Without modifying the AD to 171 to make the routes preferred via EIGRP, they will get advertised to BB3 with whatever RIP metric they learned from SW4. This in conjuction with the metric 15 redistribution from EIGRP fulfills the last bullet point.
