route-target import.

Dear All,

Ref : INE VOD 26. Inter-AS MPLS L3VPN

INTER-AS setup has

R1 - XR1 peering rtr between two AS.

R2 - XR2 vpnv4 RR  rtr.

R4 ,R2 ---- R5,XR2  --- PE edge router connecting to customer ce routers.

route-target import command on R4 ,R2 ,R5 XR2 is MUST.

In addtion to this do we need to configuration route-targe import command on peering rtr (R1-XR1) and vpnv4 RR rtr (R2-XR2).

  • route-target import command on R4 ,R2 ,R5 XR2 is MUST.

Route-target imports controls routes to import from BGP table to vrf table. We configure route-target export or import on VRF configured routers.

Now I have question to you: do you have VRF configured on R1,XR1,R2,XR2? If there is VRF you can configure it otherwise you don't need it.

    Good Luck

  • Nope...

so the conclusion is route-target not required on ebpg peering rtr and on vpnv rr.

  • Why you wanna configure VRF's on eBGP Peering routers & on RR's ?

VRF's will be configured on PE's only and those inter-domain VPNv4 routes will be exchanged via RR's by having multihop peering b/w them. That's the concept behind Multihop eBGP VPNv4 exchange also known as Option-C.

As far as eBGP Peering routers goes; they simply don't need to have those VRF's.

You will be configuring those PE routers with send-label to each other to have end-to-end LSP.

Do you configure VRF on those routers? Can you post your Config, I am willing to see here:)
