fram encap show cmd

Hello all,

 

Im looking for a show cmd to show the frame encap type when you run ppp with a virtual template.. i.e.

 

interface Serial1/0
 no ip address
 encapsulation frame-relay
 cdp enable
 frame-relay traffic-shaping
 frame-relay interface-dlci 223 ppp Virtual-Template1
  class FRTS
end

with a show interface you get the following ...

 

with the IETF
encap you get ...



Rack13R1(config-if)#encapsulation frame-relay ietf

Rack13R1(config-if)#do sh int s0/1

Serial0/1 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is PowerQUICC Serial

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,

Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY IETF, loopback not set

CISCO

do we just take Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY, as cisco as it is the default ?

    Hi,

    You are correct, default frame-relay encapsulation type is cisco.If you want to use ietf use encapsulation frame-relay ietf.

  • is there any debugs (I cant see any) where you can debug frame-relay encapsulation and see CISCO ???

    debug frame-relay events should show this information, have you tried it?

    also the output of the show interface command also reveals the Frame Relay encapsulation type configured on that interface. Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY in the output indicates that Cisco Frame Relay encapsulation type is enabled. Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY IETF shows that IETF Frame Relay encapsulation type is in use.

  • I agree that this is a little bit confusing some times. For example, when we have a P2P link the default encapsulation is HDLC, but the output of the sh int will show encapsulation HDLC. Here the default for frame-relay is CISCO, I would expect it to show CISCO on the output of sh int, but it doesn't - you just need to know that the default is CISCO, if you change it from CISCO to IETF, then it will explictly show you that.
