  • Hi Mohanad0002220,

As long you use  different session number and VLAN number for RSPAN and SPAN, yes you can.

    dear all ,

can we configure the following command in the same switch

monitor session 1 source remote vlan <>

monitor sessiom 1 source vlan <>

monitor session 1 destionation interface <>...

    thanks

  • no .... i mean to use it for the same session as for session 1 there will be two sources one is remote vlan and the other is regular vlan and the question  came for this case let says that we have to switches and both of them have vlan 10 configured on it and vlan 100 is the remote vlan

i want to monitor and ports could be connected in the vlan 10 in both switches and the monitoring device connected to the second switch so the question is can we do the following configuration

    sw1

    -----

monitor session 1 source vlan 10

monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 100

    -----

    sw2

    ----

monitor session 1 source vlan 10

monitor session 1 source remote vlan 100

    monitor session1 dest interace <>

    thanks

  • Still... No ;-) Actually the switch will complain as you can see below:

    Rack24SW1(config)#do sh vlan id 100

    VLAN Name                             Status    Ports

    ---- -------------------------------- --------- -------------------------------

    100  VLAN0100                         active    Fa0/13, Fa0/14, Fa0/15, Fa0/19

                                                    Fa0/20, Fa0/21

VLAN Type  SAID       MTU   Parent RingNo BridgeNo Stp  BrdgMode Trans1 Trans2

    ---- ----- ---------- ----- ------ ------ -------- ---- -------- ------ ------

    100  enet  100100     1500  -      -      -        -    -        0      0

    Remote SPAN VLAN

    ----------------

    Enabled

    Primary Secondary Type              Ports

    ------- --------- ----------------- ------------------------------------------

    Rack24SW1(config)#do sh run | i monitor

monitor session 1 source vlan 12

monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 100

    ---

    Rack24SW2(config)#monitor session 1 source vlan 10

    Rack24SW2(config)#monitor session 1 source remote vlan 100

% Cannot add RSPAN VLAN as source for SPAN session 1 as it is not a RSPAN Destination session

  • Hi,

I haven't tried it but as per documentation:

The switch does not support a combination of local
SPAN and RSPAN in a single session
. That is, an RSPAN source session
cannot have a local destination port, an RSPAN destination session
cannot have a local source port, and an RSPAN destination session and an
RSPAN source session that are using the same RSPAN VLAN cannot run on
    the same switch.

This means we can't configure the RSPAN and SPAN on single session.

  • Correct - RSPAN and SPAN could not be combined. You will need two monitor sessions in this case.

    HTH

  • Thanks for the reply so how is the configuration will be if we want to consider all the port could be in the vlan 10 on both switches

  • Aditionally, SPAN or RSPAN source can either be interface or vlans not mix of these two in a monitor session. In RSPAN we can also not have mix of vlan or remote vlan source as pointed out by others.

  • how is the configuration will be if we want to consider all the port could be in the vlan 10 on both switches

  • how is the configuration will be if we want to consider all the port could be in the vlan 10 on both switches

I think we need to create second session for local SPAN with destination span port different from the destination rspan port. So we will be having two seperate destination ports, one for local span and second for rspan.

  • how is the configuration will be if we want to consider all the port could be in the vlan 10 on both switches

One of the restriction is: It can participate in only one SPAN session at a
time (a destination port in one SPAN session cannot be a destination
port for a second SPAN session). So you need another session with source from VLAN 10 and destination to different port.

    Good Luck
