Task 8.4

Hello, 

I am confusing compressiong method between stacker and predistor.

Cisco Link does not help me to understand perfectly.

Can anyone have better understanding and differenciation in between?

  • Actually both algorithm has similar compression ration, one is CPU intensive and another is RAM intensive:

  • Stacker = CPU intensive, less memory intensive, based on Lempel-Ziv compression

    Predictor = memory intesive, less CPU intensive.

    The task says "Configure R4 and R5 to maximize
    efficiency on the PPP link by guessing character streams in frames sent over
    the link"; this means you should enable PPP if it is not already enabled
    on the serial link between R4 and R5. If you did not, you cannot accomplish the
    task because the predictor option is not available for HDLC (the encapsulation
    type enabled by default over serial links).
