VTP Version 2 feature question
Hi all,
So in the Catalyst 3560 configuration guide on page 13-4 it states the following regarding the VTP Version 2 protocol features:
Unrecognized Type-Length-Value (TLV) support—A VTP server or client propagates configuration
changes to its other trunks, even for TLVs it is not able to parse. The unrecognized TLV is saved in
NVRAM when the switch is operating in VTP server mode.
Does anyone know of an example where this would be applicable? I'm trying to understand where an unrecognized TLV would come into play.
Thanks,
Warjack

Hi,
For example if you use vtp version 2 but relay VTP version 3 advertisments, and you have the new TLV of version 3 which of course version 2 does not understand.
Good luck with your studies!
Thanks Christian....just want to know how it ticks

Hi,
In a good learning process you ned to understand how it ticks and not memorize it.
