CIST - Spanning-tree Loop

Whilst studying multi-region MST , and i was thinking about possible troubleshooting senarios in the lab ,

has anyone ever seen a spanning tree loop/broadcast storm type problems when running CIST ?.

specifically, errrors in the CIST itself,

eg the election of the CIST or Regional root bridge but not with standard Rapid-SPT.

i have never deployed MR-MST in production and have no experience in it ?

any thoughts.

  • Hi,

Why would you have a loop? To make sure you have o issues on a CIST, if you use Cisco switches, you need to make sure the CST root is the root for all PVST+ vlans; some issue you might also have with extended system-ID due to its different meaning on MST and STP. Read Petr's blog posts and you should be good; is you still have issues come back to this thread.

    Good luck with your studies!

  • Chritian , that is sort of my point .

i have read petr`s blog , and he states there should be good network design when building MST , but he doesnt really go into troubleshooting a large scale MST enviroment. ( which i am not really expecting him to as that would be to much)..

so my call is going out the community , if they have experience with large scale MST, or even any scale MST, i dont know anyone who runs MST ..

    anybody deployed it ???

WB VolI should help you practising MST. I remember one guy posted about MST compatibility problem with PVST+. Check it out: http://ieoc.com/forums/p/16623/139275.aspx. But this kind of issue should be out of scope.
    Good luck for your study.
