Task 1.4 - Alternative solution for MST - VLAN mapping

Guys,

The task requires us to configure the network so that there is only one instance of spanning-tree for each of the following sets of VLANs:

  • VLANs 3 through 7
  • VLANs 13 through 45
  • VLANs 52 through 67
  • VLANs 1 and 1001

SG's solution:
spanning-tree mst configuration
 instance 1 vlan 3-7
 instance 2 vlan 13-45
 instance 3 vlan 52-67
 instance 4 vlan 1,1001

But how about below mapping:
spanning-tree mst configuration
 instance 1 vlan 3-7
 instance 2 vlan 13-45
 instance 3 vlan 52-67
 instance 4 vlan 2, 8-12, 46-51, 68-1000, 1002-4094

Can we consider the 2nd mapping as a valid alternative solution?

TIA
Happy Studying

  • Hi,

If there are no other existing VLANs(cause if there are, you'll have more than VLAN 1 and 1001 attached to instance 0), i say it is valid. However, i would not use it, and i guess not even think of it, the SG would be the only solution i would think of with such task requirements.

    Good luck with your studies!

  • Thanks for your reply. In the real lab, I will definitely follow SG's solution.

PS: No other VLAN is mapped to instance 0 as I mapped the rest of the VLANs (up to VID 4094) to instance 4.
