There should be very few labs that require private VLANs. However, please try to master that topic as that component has its fair share of complexities.I've gone through from 1 to 10. Only Lab 1 and Lab 7 had Private VLANs. I quickly checked the rest of the labs and it doesnt look like they had them.

Only private VLAN Edge (protected port). You have a complete matrix in here:

In the lab you'll get 3560 which supports, so i don't get your concern.

PVLAN is not supported in 3550. But as far CAT QOS goes, 3550 support WRR where as 3560s support SRR. Below is the comparison sheet of both models.
