CME SIP REGISTER issue
Hello, I am trying to register my CP-7941G phone to my CME. The phone used to register with CUCM (177.1.10.10). Now it still restering to CUCM though the tftp server is CME. But the phone is unstable as it keep restarting and registering every once a few minutes. The phone's IP is 177.3.11.102. I did try to connect the phone to CUCM and change the firmware to SIP firware. Now it's using SIP41.9-0-2SR1S. I don't why it cannot register. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you Mark.
I found those firmware files from here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme41spc.htm
I think you suggest that I should find files like 8-2-1 files to match the 8-2-1S.loads file. But there is no files like that.
I tried to change
load 7941GE SIP41.8-2-1S.loads
load 7941 SIP41.8-2-1S.loads
as
load 7941GE term41.default.loads
load 7941 term41.default.loads
This didn't work.
I did the 'no create profile' and then 'create profile' everytime I changed it before I power cycle the phone.
Debug doesn't show any output. And the phone just register to the CUCM like before.
It looks like the phone doesn't get the right config file from CME. How does it know to register to CUCM? It must be the configuration from last time and it is still there.
BTW, I have another case which I think it's similar to this one:
I register 2 7941 phones easily to my UC 500 which is also runing CME. The phones upgrade the fireware and registered. I put another phone which is also registered to CUCM before now it has the similar situation. It keeps registering though it has the right TFTP , IP inforamtion from the UC 520. So I think the phone is trying to find the CUCM it registered before. I can still see the number in the old description from the CUCM in the phone screen. This case is running SCCP.
I go to phone's setting- Device Configuration - CallManager Configuration - CallManager1 10.1.1.1 active
another unregistered phone setting - Device Configuration - Unified CM Configuration - Unified CM1 - 177.1.10.10
The 177.1.10.10 is the CUCM the phone registered with. It cannot get the right CUCM IP. I think this is relate to the config file
I have seen something similar many times before where the phone is using old TFTP server IP/config file (similar to caching behaviour). Usually I do a factory reset which fix the problem.
Try to do factory reset and let us know the result. Use below link:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_tech_note09186a00800941bb.shtml
Thank you Baqari
Yes, I think resetting the phone is the only way to get rid of the old config file if we cannot get a new config file from the tftp server.
I fixed the problem. But unfortunately I don't know how exactly I fixed that.
I found one mistake in my first post. When we load some files, there should be no extensions. For example, it should be "load SIP41.8-2-1S" instead of "load SIP41.8-2-1S.load".
I was changing the files I load and keep creating profile to generate a new SIPDefaults.cnf.And then suddenly the phone was registering. I can only say it must because some sort of firmware and cnf files cause this issue besides the wrong command I mentioned above. The debug tftp events/packets generated no output at all in the whole process even when he phone was donwloading files and upgrading firmware. I don't know why.
I found this article helpful too.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmefiles.html#wp1023156
Good to hear this.
Regarding TFTP packets which aren't displayed using debug when the phone registers with CME, could be you missed "term mon" command [;)]
Else, you have to see tftp packets when you enable "debug tftp packets" if CME is used as your TFTP server.
Thank you Baqari,
I just use that command "terminal monitor" and then the output comes out. I learned a lot today. Thank you and have a good day.
Williamz;
I have had many similar problems with phone registrations as of late, when moving from one UCM platform to another. We have noticed that when moving from one cluster to another, especially with 8.x and above, the security certificates (CTL/ITL) refuse to release, and behave as though the old one has priority, and refuses to allow overwriting of this file. Our only way to correct this issue, is to do a factory reset. We have even found that on 7942/62's, when we do a Settings->Security->CTL->Erase, that it does not work 75%< of the time. I know that this doesn't tie directly to your question, but you said "I fixed the problem. But unfortunately I don't know how exactly I fixed that.", and I thought I would share this with you. We have also had issues with the trust list not being deleted from the phones as well, but that is more with 8.5 and 9.x phone loads, than w/ 7.x.
