CCIE #29342

I am happy to announce that I finally made it, I passed the R&S lab in RTP on June 20, 2011, it was my 2nd attempt.  The feeling was good, I felt more relieved than excited.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank INE staffs, IEOC and the forum, reading other folks' experience, advices and comments, it helps me to identify my weakless, where I went wrong and need to work on.  More importantly, I know that I am not alone in this long and tough journey with countless hours of constant reading/re-reading and labbing/re-labbing.

For practice, I used:
INE WB Vol 1,2,4 - (everything you need to know is in INE WB)
Advanced Technologies Video-On-Demand
R&S Open Lecture Series Class-on-Demand
CCIE R&S Advanced Troubleshooting Video-on-Demand

Little advice on the lab day:
Don't panic;
Don't make any last-minute changes;
Troubleshooing section is challenging;
Time management is the key;
Read the "Lab Do and Don't" section carefully.

For those who are in process of preparing, stick with it and don't give up.
Know the technology, practice..practice..practice..in the end it's worth every bit of the effort.

Best wishes to all!

  • Congrats and thank you for the tips and advice :)

  • Congrats and Welldone.

    Thank you for sharing your experience.

  • Congrats jchan!  Well deserved man, good job.

  • Jchan,

    Well done!!

    May I ask how much time you think you committed? With work /
    family commitments I think the maximum I can put in is about 16 hours per week.

    I know everyone’s experiences are different but do you think
    this will be enough? I guess I will know if it is enough later down the track
    based on how well I do in mock labs.

    Good job mate.

    Aaron.

    Thanks everyone!

    Hi ariemer,

    I know what you mean, CCIE's journey does has a large impact on personal and family life.  I am a full time employee and have 2 kids and married, I can only do 3 hours per day starting at 9:00pm to midnight every day for almost 2 years.  so timewise, we put in the same amount of time and effort.  However, I did take 10 days off before the lab day to finish up my final preparations.

    Hope this helps!

  • Congrats! Great Job!

  • Excellent post!  Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

  • Congrats!  those currently studying for their CCIE right now can truly appreciate the effort and disregard for all else in life, required.

    VERY impressed with the fact that you did it while having a wife and kiddies. As it is with myself...I feel extremly sorry for my wife to be who has to deal with my absence(although being apart from her most of the week is a strong driving force). I cannot imagine doing it with kids at home...BRAVO!

    although on a more selfish note...i'm about 5 solid months away and my chances of attaining a # under 30k looking bleak now.

  • Well done ! congratulations

  • Congrats Buddy !!!
