Failed SPv3 because of limited time

I failed exam by my mistake, i started slow and wasted lot's time in pre configs verification, my typing speed was bit slow and unplanned.

Lab was well designed and really challenging, with good typing speed that is doable in 8 hrs.

There are more than 3 XR's in two service providers core for IPv4 + IPv6, VNS are asked to configure and troubleshoot for both ip versions.

Lab was covering  almost all major topics of ccie sp v3 blueprint including , VPN,CSC,L2tp,ATOM, VPLS, multicast only related to ipv4.

I will try second time very soon after good excerise for typing speed

Thank you

  • craig,

Thanks for the info on the SP v3 Lab - Best of luck for the next attempt!

  • What was the most time consuming/challenging part for you?

Can you provide some chart how much time was spent on each topic from the list above.

  • As per new format, there were 4 sections in lab, 1 section is very legthy, lot's of things were there to do including:

L2 TS (Ethernet, PoS, PPP, FR) - took more than hr

IGP routing for IPv4/IPv6 for huge core with 10+ devices, configuration and troubleshooting took approx 80 mins.

IPv4 + IPv6 unicast BGP configs and ts took more than an hr.

Till lunch i was in 1st section, on procotor call i was shocked and  realized I have to do still a lot not completed even 30% of lab.

Post lunch tried to be fast and completed MPLS/TE/VPNv4 BGP peerings/VPNv6 BGP Peerings/Mcast in core/ took appox 120 mins.

Section  2 and 3, started working for VPNs this was also very lengthy part could not finish this completely at the time of leaving exam 2-3 questions left in 3rd sections.

    4rth section was left intact.

This is the tragedy, i needed to be fast in pre lunch hours to complete lab on time. Overall it was very good experience, they have created real SP environment, which brings interest, each question was challenging costructed with deep insight.Guys who like technology will enjoy this.

    Thank you

  • Section 4 consists l2vpn and mvpn, in accordance with Sample LAB, as I understand? :)

There're no IP services tasks like in SPv2?

Where did you practice XR commands?

  • section 4 is pure l2vpn, and you are right about other point. I work on GSR's daily in production environment.

  • One way to cut your typing time is to make good use of Notepad. You'll have access to Notepad on the test and I use it to both keep track of my config changes and to create configuration templates for the tasks that I have to do on multiple routers.

  • Can you give me some light how you pratice, about XR part as I am planning my LAB exam soon

  • When is your lab date?  I’m in the final stages of building our new topology that includes IOS XR.  Rack rentals will be available for it next month.

  • Brian,

This is good news - I was in the "wait and see" mode for SP.

Any idea of what the rental rate will be? I saw another company with a fairly high price for a short session...

  • It’s not set yet, but it will be reasonable.  The workbook is going to be updated along with the new class using this topology.  There are a few other people I’ve been talking to that will be building our topology as well for rental.
