1.17 EtherChannel over 802.1q Tunneling

Hello in version workbook "iewb-rs-vol1.ENTIREWORKBOOK.v5.019"

section 1.17 solution configuration include:

SW3

...

interface FastEthernet 0/19

switchport access vlan 100

swichtport trunk encapsulation dot1q

.....

Do there be indispensable ?

Configuration of encapsulation trunk is only in fas 0/19

Best regards

  • As long as the ports are using dot1q, then dot1q-tunnel should work.
So, just make sure the encapsulation is set to dot1q on each dot1q-tunnel port.

  • Hi,

Command "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q" says ue DTP to negotiate ttrunk but use only dot1q, NOT ISL. However, command "switchport mode dot1q-tunnel" disables DTP and makes the port a dot1q-tunnel port. So the first command is useless and it is not needed to make the feature functional.

    Good luck with your studies!

  • Thanks for the correction Christian.
Indeed, the port is not actually running trunking, hence the command is useless.
