The Citrix Online network consists of a
large number of routers and switches spread across the globe in various
datacenters and offices. These devices support tens of thousands of ports and a
large amount of Internet traffic every day. Additionally, the network also
supports the internal workforce and their communication needs. The purpose of
the Senior Network Engineer is to design, extend, operate and maintain all of
these components while ensuring an uptime of 99.99%. This position will be
tasked with larger projects such as the expansions and capacity upgrades, as
well as be involved deeply with the day-to-day operations of the network. A
senior network engineer is expected to collaborate with the Network Architect
to go over product modifications. A person in this position will be required to
make tactical and strategic decisions on their own, may specialize in Routing
and Switching, Voice technologies, or WAN infrastructure and may be responsible
for specific subsystems from one of those classes.

Principal Responsibilities

• Translates group strategy into
day-to-day tactical decisions

• Documents and applies guidance on
industry standards to improve current environment and practices

• Maintains high network availability
build for redundancy and resilience; periodically tests the resilience by active
testing

• Calculates capacity requirements;
understands and accounts for peak load; manages peak load events

• Defines Standard Operating Procedures
(SOPs) for operational efficiency

• Continuously investigates and
recommends alternatives to bring down operational costs

• Works with the Network Architect to
define requirements around network performance such as QoS and traffic shaping

• Evaluates and oversees implementation
of a carrier grade monitoring system

• Performs security audits of the subsystems
to continuously improve the security posture; defines day-to-day procedures to
achieve this end

• Ensures compliance with various audit
requirements such as SOX and PCI

• Maintains operational relationships
with service providers, and equipment vendors

• Is the highest level of support for
escalated end-user issues

• Configures routers, switches, load
balancers and other network devices in accordance with best practices; codifies
these best practices as templates and publishes to the group

• Plans for disaster recovery both on a
global and on a site-by-site basis

• Creates reports in system-wide
performance metrics

• Ensures configuration management and
reviews it is in place and being rigorously followed

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Is available for on-call rotation 2
weeks a month

• Attends conferences and expos in the
field

• Inculcates and imparts BCPs as part
of every project

• Guides and instructs junior members
of the NSG

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Qualifications and Requirements    Knowledge and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in CS or ECE or
equivalent experience; prefer candidates with Master’s in the same field

• At
least 5 years experience with Enterprise or service provider Networks

• Experience building and maintaining a
100person or 1000+ server network

• 3+ years of on-call technical
operations experience a plus

• Must be fluent in multi-area OSPF and
BGP, MLS and stateful firewalls

• CCNP or equivalent certification
required

• Fluency with Cisco IOS (JunOS a plus)

• Experience with the Cisco 65xx,
nexus, 72xxx platforms

• Experience with billing and CDR
management systems

• Experience with Cisco Call Manager,
UCCx, Avaya CM/IC, Nortel PBXes a plus

• Fluency with Basic Networking: Ethernet,
TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, NTP, SNMP

• Advanced knowledge of VoIP: SIP, SCCP
and H.323

• Understanding of voice encoding
methods and codecs (G.711, G.729, G.722, iLBC, iSAC)

• Basic programming experience a plus
(Perl, SQL, JAVA)

• Ability to be very customer-oriented
and willing to engage

• Able to solve complex problems by
successive decomposition

• Experience juggling multiple
responsibilities and prioritization of conflicting requirements
