lab console server

Hi Guys,

I have cabled up my lab and I have issues with my access
server. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this problem.

Whenever I power up my lab and try to access the console of
each device I find I have to clear the line multiple times before the
connection is accepted.

It looks like you can’t clear a range of lines either
and this becomes very time consuming and annoying.

Any Ideas?

  • It looks like I needed to reload the access server once all the
devices have powered up and settled. I did this and no need now to clear the
    lines.

Out of interest what are people out there using for access
server and did you experience this problem?

I am using a 2511 with 2x octal cables so 16 console ports.

    Cheers,

    -Aaron.

  • Hi Brian,

Yep I did that but then I reloaded so maybe the no exec has fixed
the problem.. I will have a play around.

    “no exec

!--- Unwanted signals from the attached device do not launch.

!--- An EXEC session ensures that the line never becomes
    unavailable

!--- due to a rogue EXEC process.”

  • Aaron,

As Brian indicated, it was probably the default "exec" that was messing with you.

I have a 2511 that has run without problems.

  • Yes I am thinking so as well.

    Thanks for all your help.

  • I had the same problem, in addition to the exec setting I set the lines not to timeout on the access server.

With a console connection to the access server I never had to kill or re-establish any of the reverse telnet sessions for any lab I worked on. It was a timesaver and cured a headache or two.
