IP Static Default Route

I was doing some work in my lab where I set a static default route, and noticed something I hadn't noticed ( or taken the time to notice) before.  I wanted to see how my router (with the def rte) was getting to an IP address.  It was not being advertised by any protocols, therefore it was being sent to the defualt route; howevrer, when I did a show ip route x.x.x.x, the router returned "Not in network table".  When I looked up the route in the cef table, it was resolved to the defualt route.

Since the most specific route int the routing table was the defualt route, why didn't it show up as being resolved by 0.0.0.0, when I showed IP route, instead of only the CEF table?
