5.1 Multicast Alternate Solution

Task does not state to summarize.  Only says to use minimum access-list lines.  So could one not use "access-list 1 permit 225.0.0.0 0.255.255.255???

    BTW. is it neccessary to enable PIM on R3 and R4 loopbacks? I understand, that when using auto-rp or bsr it must be done. But accordng to my test, with static rp assignment it works well without pim enabled on loopbacks.

  • If you are using static rp there is no need to enable pim on the loopback interface

  • Also, the task doesn't imply these need to be tested for the groups because if you do you'll find that there's (or rather I did) an RPF failure when reaching R4's Lo0 as the prefered route is via F0/0, not the PIM enabled interfaces.

    So, just having the task working as per the wording is good.

    Also, in Dynamips we need to have PIM enabled on the Lo0s or the error crops up:

    'Must first configure PIM mode on the interface: Loopback0'

    You don;t need to configure PIM mode under loopback, if you have static RP:

  • Narayan.Neupane thanks.  So even though I get the error in Dynamips it'll still function?  Worth knowing but luckily no Dynamips in the real world of exams.
