Task 8.4 CIR PIR

I was wondering what indicates of using CIR and PIR?  I was using police cir, bc and be as shown below.  Will that be acceptable?  Comments?

policy-map QOS
 class class-default
   police cir 256000 bc 4000 be 4000
     conform-action set-prec-transmit 1
     exceed-action set-prec-transmit 0
     violate-action drop

  • I did the same as you - I wonder whether this is a valid solution...

    Anyone?

  • I am no sure but i think it will do the same thing, but i wonder what is the difference?.

  • I'm with You guys, do same thing, but use 100ms Tc.

    Policy Map ENFORCE

        Class class-default

         police cir 256000 bc 25600 be 25600

           conform-action set-prec-transmit 1

           exceed-action set-prec-transmit 0

           violate-action drop

Firstly I do this with the PIR parameter but wasn't sure, so I also asking, is there any technical difference between PIR define by "PIR" keyword and the PIR defined by the Bc and Be value?

  • PIR value is not defined by Be. With police cir you use single token bucket algorithm, so each Tc interval you can send Bc, and if there are periods of pause, credit is accumulated so you can exceed Bc with maximum Be value per Tc interval. With police pir you use two token bucket algorithm from start and conform traffic is less than Bc per Tc interval, Exceed is less than Be per Tc interval and violate is more than Be per Tc interval.
    Hope it's clear enough.

  • would this solution earn the points?

     rate-limit input 256000 8000 8000 conform-action set-prec-continue 1 exceed-action continue
     rate-limit input 512000 8000 8000 conform-action set-prec-continue 0 exceed-action drop

  • this is valid, although, MQC has added flexibility in most cases
