when to user auto qos on the lab?

Hi,

 

i will like to know what i the best rule to follow in order to decide if use the autoqos on the frame relay and switches on the lab? is it a valid tool? is it really usefull? if so, what will be the key mark to decide wether to use it or no?

Hi,

In my opinion, it depends on the depth of the task being asked of you. ('m sure there are  many other opinions out there). 

if the task is very elaborate; mark all voice traffic on the wan to best practices, do not trust existing markings, police voice traffic to 4 G.729 calls, configure %5 of the bandwidth for signaling, use MLPP, LFI and cRTP. Then using Auto QoS may be beneficiary, because it may get 80% percent of the task done for you.

If the task is very simple or specific, such as the pvc is provisioned for 384, configure MLP LFI, then I wouldn't not use qos. The task doesn't even ask you to classify voice traffic. So you may be over doing it. 

Use auto qos once you understand what it does. Blindly applying it could lead to unintended consequences.
