CUCM virtualization

Hello guys

i have a question about virtualizing CUCM 8.0

is it possible to
install 2 or more CUCMs in VMWare ESXi and make them working in a
cluster mode?

does CUCM support VMWare ESXi for virtualization
especially for increasing redundancy?

does this action need extra
license units for each CUCM we install and use as a secondary,third,...
callmanager server in VMWare ESXi ?

i want to do it in a HP server
like HP ProLiant ML350 G6

any other recommendation especially for
increasing redundancy will be appreciated

thanks

  • Hi,

It should answer most of your questions. Wether 2 or more instances may be
installed on the same hostmachine: Yes they can, but they need ip-reacability
between each other. But do you get true redundancy if you have several CUCM’s on
the same host? Not in my world.

  • hi lawedo

first of all,i really appreciate for your answer and the useful link

this solution came to my mind only for redundancy issues and increasing reachability

because the environment that i wanted to implement CUCM server needs high redundancy

so one solution that came to my mind was running multiple CUCMs on a VMWARE ESXi machine with a powerful server.

but what do you recommend for increasing the redundancy issues especially in a CUCM environment?

    thanks

  • With the new approach from Cisco on the virtualization scenario,
virtualization is truly a way to acchive redundancy.

BUT: True redundancy is only acchieved when you

1: Have a VM-ware cluster (not just the one server)

2: At least have two VM-ware servers, with one CUCM instance on each

(Because you do not want to move your single point of failure (weakness)
from the CUCM environment, to the virtualized component)
