ISIS Config

Hi,

I was configuring ISIS for a sample scenario , it's not an issue , just a quick question :

Is there any difference between these two theoretically ? (I know one is global and one is interface specific , just imagine for a single interface)

1)

router isis
 net 47.0001.0000.0000.0001.00

Int fas0/0

IP router isis

isis circuit-type l2-only

2)

router isis
 net 47.0001.0000.0000.0001.00

is-type level-2-only

Int fas0/0

IP router isis

Appreciate your help

Sammy

  • Sammy,

The only difference is that 2) using is-type level-2-only will apply to all interfaces. 1) using isis circuit-type level-2-only will apply to the interface only, and will override the global setting under the router isis process.

If there is only one isis interface, either method will work equally.

If you have multiple isis interfaces, and they all need to be level-2-only, it is easier to configure under the router isis process - one command vs. one per interface.

  • Thx mate for you response,

    Nice explanation.
