4.8 passive interface on R6

wondering why passive-interface default is not set under RIP process on R6. did not get it.

Comments

• The reason is because the RIP network statements do not include any other interfaces on r6:

r6#sh ip int br | e una
Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol
Serial0/0 54.1.3.6 YES manual up up
FastEthernet0/1 204.12.1.6 YES manual up up

BVI1 136.1.136.6 YES manual up up
Loopback0 150.1.6.6 YES manual up up

On the other devices, our RIP network statements include networks that are not supposed to be adverised via RIP. For intstance, on r5 the statement 'network 136.1.0.0' will include all interfaces except lo0 and e0/0.

As far as task 4.8 goes, there's nothing in the task that makes using passive interfaces on r6 wrong. If they had stated "use the minimum configuration", then using passive interfaces would be incorrect.

Without passive interfaces configured:

r6#sh run | sec router rip
router rip
version 2
network 54.0.0.0
network 204.12.1.0

no auto-summary

r6#sh ip proto | sec rip
Routing Protocol is "rip"
Outgoing update filter list for all interfaces is not set
Incoming update filter list for all interfaces is not set
Sending updates every 30 seconds, next due in 16 seconds
Invalid after 180 seconds, hold down 180, flushed after 240
Redistributing: rip
Default version control: send version 2, receive version 2
Interface Send Recv Triggered RIP Key-chain
Serial0/0 2 2 <-note
FastEthernet0/1 2 2 <-note
Automatic network summarization is not in effect
Maximum path: 4
