but on r1 why cant we use the following???

    Assuming that you have version 4.1 of the WB - Task 2.2 states "Do not use Frame Relay Inverse-ARP", and also states "Do not use subinterfaces on R1".

    This set of specifications requires a frame-relay map ip statement on R1, which makes the frame-relay interface-dlci statement unnecessary. I suppose you could use PPP over F/R (virtual-template), but that introduces more complexity than is required.

    The frame-relay interface-dlci statement works perfectly on R5's point-to-point subinterface, because it does not need layer 3 to layer 2 mapping - all traffic exiting the subinterface will be sent to R1. PPP over F/R could also work on a point-to-multipoint or point-to-point subinterface on R5.
