Task 11.1 Beware about spaces

Guys,

When playing with verification of your configuration please notice that there is significant difference between these two configuration statements:

username ADMIN password CISCO<space>

username ADMIN password CISCO

When you hit the space bar behind CISCO password IOS will expect "CISCO " in authentication prompt to let you in. You may have encountered similar issue

with "sh run | b rip" and "sh run | b rip<space>".

Verified on  2600XM with 12.4(15)T7 IOS.

  • Tom,

You are quite correct - a space after the password changes the password, and is difficult to troubleshoot.

Also be aware that the same warning applies to key chain names - a space after the key chain name can cause the key chain to not be applied.
