    rate-limit question

Hi, Can someone please explain why in rate-limit, that:

normal burst = normal rate in bytes * 1.5

    excess burst = normal burst * 2

    e.g. rate-limit output 4000000 750000 1500000 conform trans exc drop

Obviously this is not the same calculation that people use to calculate the standard bc and be

    Thanks!

    Re: rate-limit question

It’s all about statistics…you can never achieve a rate of x it you our never allow to exceed it.  I hate baseball but batting average is a good analogy…Let’s same you bat .300 on the season.  Some games you bat .0 and some .1000, some .200, some 500 etc…over the course of the season it averages out to be .300.  What you think your batting average would be it you were never allowed to bat more the .300?  Statically it would be impossible to achieve that average…so it is with rate limiting.  So it’s all about achieving statistical averages.  Now beyond that I just memorize the formulas or where to find them.
